Hoopsmiles (also known by Jon) is an entertainer and performer in the Seattle area. When I asked him what he was all about, he simple told me "My mission is to make people smile." and he does it well.
I met Mr. Hoopsmiles at the Arts In Nature Festival in West Seattle. I arrived to the open field that he had be teaching at, and as I approached Hoopsmiles was wrapping it all up.
It was over, and I was clearly bummed about this. We chatted for a few short minutes before he had to pack his few dozen of hulla hoops back up. He gave me his card, and that was that. I was leaving town again in a few days, so this time was a missed connection.
6 months later, I still had the card in my wallet. I thought it was finally time for me to do some reaching out. I was coming back to town, and it was time to collaborate.
I like what Hoopsmiles is about. I like his lively energy that he projects to the people around him.
I hold a special place in my heart for those who have the ability to perform in front of strangers. Usually these performers fall under the category as a a "busker", but in this case Hoopsmiles is more of a performer, with a kind of busking energy. When watching him hoop, he attracts joy, humor, play, spontaneity, creativity, and guidance.
